The Drug Double-Standard: Corporate Propaganda and the Medicalization of Society

(Source)
Many individuals and groups in American society display prejudice and undo discrimination against illicit drugs and yet fail to apply the same standards to all drugs, especially those being advertised. This mental manipulation of drug discrimination through corporate and governmental propaganda should always be recognized, understood, and opposed.

Big business spends millions in advertising dollars every year convincing the American public that (simply) there are drugs that are acceptable and drugs that are not. Although both have terrible side-effects and are leading killers, alcohol and tobacco are legal and even promoted on television. Same with prescription drugs. Marijuana is a non-toxic medicine but is illegal while vioxx has killed thousands, is legal and has killed more then marijuana ever has.

Lunesta depicts a male unable to sleep thinking (internally):
“I’ve got to remember that appointment tomorrow? Did I send the car payment? What made me volunteer for that assignment?” Then the narrator of the commercial breaks in stating “introducing Lunesta, a sleep aid that can give you and your restless mind the sleep you need.” Another commercial states; “You often feel distracted, disorganized, restless, unable to finish things, like the channel keeps changing in your mind and you can’t control the remote. If you’ve felt these symptoms your whole life you may have adult ADD.”
These commercials and drugs are not only to reap sales but it must be pointed out they suppress thought. The amount of children on ADD and ADHD medication is staggering and unacceptable. When children try to do their school work and say they can’t focus it seems like they have ADD. However, most children can then sit in front of a television or videogame screen and watch/play for hours. Some individuals may have an actual mental disorder, but many kids are being medicated uncessarily. For the most part, these are not focus or attention issues but motivation issues and both parents and society ignorantly accepts the quick-fix (easy-out) drug.

Constantly thinking about something else or being unable to turn off your brain is what it was designed to do. It’s not a neurological imbalance but condition due to neglect. Our society is so fast paced it is amazing what we fit into a day. Most people are unable to shut off their brains at night or have a constantly racing mind because they never dedicate a sufficient amount of time to meditation, yoga, or spirituality. Our species, mainly due to our way of life and society, have become doers and have forgotten how to simply be. If there is a rise in anxiety and hyperactivity in this culture we must never rule out the possibility that these issues stem from the societal structure we have created and not personal faults.

The fact is that American culture has programed individuals to have a preconceived notion on drugs based simply on public acceptance, not scientific fact, medical purpose, or industrial value. As one can read in the related posts below the real irony of the situation is America has become accustomed to trusting drugs provided by the pharmaceutical companies although they are only concerned with pleasing stockholders and getting consumers to buy their product--which is why they now advertise directly to the consumer. Concurrently, a naturally growing plant which has non-toxic medical properties, is a cash crop, an industrial asset, and was grown by the founding fathers, marijuana... is illegal because of propaganda campaigns. The acceptance and/or illegality of drugs in America makes (absolutely) no sense.

To conclude, the systemic discrimination against specific substances is not rooted in a desire for public safety, but in the maintenance of a controlled labor force. By criminalizing plants like marijuana—which offer low-cost, decentralized medical and industrial utility—while aggressively marketing high-profit, synthetic psychotropics, the establishment ensures that the populace remains dependent on corporate-controlled "solutions."

This is a political economy of consciousness. When you accept the state’s classification of "good" and "bad" drugs, you are internalizing a hierarchy that serves stockholders, not your biological or psychological needs. We must recognize that our modern "disorders"—like anxiety, restlessness, and hyper-focus—are often rational responses to an irrational, hyper-accelerated environment. Refusing the "quick-fix" pill is the first step toward reclaiming your cognitive autonomy from the systems that profit from your distraction.

Are you ready to peel back the layers of propaganda that govern what you consume and how you think? It is time to look past the corporate-sponsored narratives and engage with the scientific and social reality of substances that have been intentionally marginalized to protect elite interests. If you want to know and understand the real effects of marijuana—stripped of the stigma and the political lies—read the JuanaWorld.com blog. Stop being a passive consumer of corporate medical advice and start your own investigative journey.
